Phineous is determined to not let his disruptive family life affect his performance at school.  He is currently positioned 14 out of 100 students in his class and hopes to score well on his exam which in part determine his choice for senior school.  He assists his mother in fetching firewood, water, cleaning the house, cooking, washing the dishes and feeding their cow and goats. 

Unfortunately, Phineous's father continues to disrupt their family, especially by restricting their mother from leaving the house to go to work and earn a living. Phineous believes these family conflicts contributed to his siblings' poor KCSE results last year. Determined not to let his family’s struggles affect him, Phineous has vowed to work harder, improve his grades, and create a better life for himself and his mother.
