CLCL began sponsoring Favour in 2019 when she was 11 years old and in the first grade. Her aged grandmother was unable to pay her school fees, so Favour had to begin school later than she should have. Despite being older than her classmates, Favour excelled and was one of the top students in her class. When her grandmother felt that she could no longer afford to support Favour's education, CLCL's sponsorship stepped in, allowing Favour to continue her studies.
In early 2020, CLCL offered Favour and her grandmother the opportunity for her to attend a boarding school, which they both eagerly accepted. However, shortly after, the Covid pandemic resulted in school closures across Kenya. When schools finally reopened, Favour learned that only children in the fourth grade and above were allowed to board, which left her feeling devastated.
Understanding the challenges older children often face in younger classes, Favour's sponsor arranged for extra tutoring to help her excel when she eventually joined the boarding school. Favour's dedication and the support from her tutoring proved vital. Now, at 17 years old and in the 7th grade, she not only stands at the top of her class but has also been elected as the President of the entire boarding school! Thanks to CLCL, Favour has a bright future ahead of her!
